The Karl Fischer sample injector, also known as the Karl Fischer oven, works by heating the sample in a sealed sample bottle above the boiling point of water. The evaporated water vapor is then carried into the Karl Fischer reagent of the moisture analyzer using a dry carrier gas (dry air or high-purity nitrogen), and the moisture content is measured using a micro moisture analyzer.
Based on the Karl Fischer titration principle, the micro moisture analyzer cannot directly measure the moisture content of samples that are difficult to dissolve in the Karl Fischer reagent or undergo redox reactions with the reagent, such as plastic particles, rubber, graphite, lubricating greases, and solid pharmaceuticals. For such samples, the "Karl Fischer oven" is required to process the samples and complete the moisture measurement.
